My mind wandered into my high school civics classes…where we were actually taught citizenship, the workings of our government (as a Republic) and comparative discussions of fascism, communism, socialism, and most importantly about our responsibilities as an American citizen. We learned civil engagement, working together for the common good of the country with examples of selflessness from the revolutionary spirit of building a new country with ideals to reach for, and willingness to fight for; the men and women of the greatest generations who fought against the tyranny of evil, the men and women who fought and died in Korea (a war that wasn’t a war and which my father could never even talk about), then catching the vision offered by John F Kennedy in his inauguration speech, “My fellow Americans, ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country.” I was just aware enough that I could admire the Freedom Riders and Rosa Parks, but not old enough to participate. Later I watched as friends and family were drafted into the Vietnam war, serving even when they were against the war itself and some not coming home. It is the selfless service that our military continues to display, those that feed the hungry, and clothe the naked, house the homeless and care for our neighbors. This is what the spirit of America and being American means to me. That we, together, make this country strong and can make a difference in standing up in the face of tyranny in America.
The Office of the President, Congress, and Senate refusing to work together to bring the country back into balance but continuing to polarize around a ‘party’ ideal rather than the American Ideal by smearing one another with ‘political correctness’ is no different than the Sunni and Shiite’s split which has had them killing one another for 1300 years. That is not the American way.
I am outraged at the disintegration of the ideals of America and what it means to be an American…outraged that the Office of the President is being used to systematically dismantle 238 years of American service and of American light and strength to the world. I am outraged that the Congress and Senate are passively ignoring their responsibilities as a part of the checks and balances put in place by the founders to help avoid the overpowering of one branch of government by another. I am outraged that the borders of my country are being overrun by millions of ILLEGAL Aliens…these people are NOT immigrants, immigrants come to America to become Americans and they come LEGALLY! I believe that the Office of the President, the Congress and the Senate have failed to act On Purpose, that this is a purposeful crises encouraged to force a change upon the American people. My heart reaches out to the human suffering that these decisions by our representatives is allowing to occur and more so that these ILLEGAL people are being allowed to remain here, to be supported by our strained services. The list of outrageous Anti-American, illegal activities, and lies that are rolling out of the cesspool of Washington DC is never ending…when will we say enough is enough? When will we forget ‘what’s in it for me’ and start to wave the flag of America with pride, overcoming and coming together to save ourselves, save our families, save our freedom?
I’m only one person, but one person can make a difference! Stand up! Write and call your congressional and senate representatives…Stop letting radicals on either side of the ‘political’ spectrum pull the country apart. I think of it like a bell curve, approximately 68% of any given data lies within one standard deviation of the mean.., in my perspective 68 of 100 people would come together on any given question. Approximately 95% of any given data is within two standard deviations of the mean. I like to think that if we are within 2 deviations from one another on any given question, we should be able to work through and to solutions. Where are the voices of the one and two standard deviations on these issues? Will we remain silent and allow 5% of the population (as a whole) tear us apart? Remember! There are 313 million people in America, 5% is only 15,650,000 and there are ONLY 535 congressional and senatorial representatives. Uh…what does that bell curve look like now?
And … about those civics classes, are they even in the curriculum?
